The Midnight Man, who lured Moon Knight into this trap, and Samuels, Steven Grant's butler, also face drowning. Even worse, the Midnight Man has just shattered the statue of Khonshu that, Moon Knight believes, gave him his powers (see issue #1). On the street above, Marlene Alraune and Frenchie find Lockley's cab and the open manhole that led Moon Knight into the trap. Back in the chamber, Samuels and Midnight Man plead with Moon Knight to find a way out. He shakes off his lethargy and uses one of his darts to start prying a brick out of the wall. By the time he loosens the brick, the water has risen over his head—the rush of water through the new opening almost takes him with it. He barely makes it back to the surface. Midnight Man plunges in to escape through the hole. Moon Knight cuts the rope holding Samuels just as the wall around the inlet collapses. The current pulls Samuels into the sewers. Moon Knight retrieves the statue's head and follows; his cloak catches on a brick and is lost. They wind up in the river. dark moon knight of the soul On a riverbank, Moon Knight pulls off his mask and tells Samuels, "I'm nothing ... everything to everyone, but nothing to myself." He wanders away, clutching the head of Khonshu. Samuels returns to Grant's mansion. Marlene calls Gena Landers, who sets Crawley and her sons to work looking for Lockley. Frenchie uses the new helicopter to search the city. Even Samuels joins the hunt. After three days, though, no one can find him. In Moon Knight's absence, Bushman begins a crime wave. Finally, Gena and Crawley find Moon Knight in Central Park, where he grieves for his brother Randall, who (he believes) died nearby. They take him to Grant's mansion, where Marlene tries to pull him out of his despondency. "I jeered the moon once too often, lady, bluffed my way through too many midnights," he says. Marlene shows him another statue of Khonshu and says that the one Midnight Man broke was a copy—this one is the original. "You did it all to yourself," she tells him. Five days later, Crawley learns that Bushman and his lieutenants will hold a meeting at a house in Brooklyn that night. Marlene gives Moon Knight a new costume, and Frenchie fires up the new chopper. They arrive as Bushman pulls up to the house and sees a group of police out front. Before Bushman can escape, Moon Knight swings down on his chopper's ladder. "It can't be!" says Bushman, "You're dead!" The answer: "You can't kill me—nothing can!" Bushman tells his driver to plow through the police. Moon Knight glides down onto the car and knocks out the driver, causing the car to crash. Bushman runs into the Botanical Gardens. Moon Knight ducks a burst from Bushman's Sten gun and attacks. With his confidence restored, Moon Knight easily bests his opponent. Back at his mansion, Grant asks Marlene if the statue of Khonshu she showed him is the copy, rather than the one he saw shattered. She says, "It's all in your mind anyway. If this one is the fake, then you've proven it—by defeating Bushman without the spirit of Khonshu." Price:

He finds Captain Tai's police force antagonzing the staff at the Princess Bar. They want to take the Gehenna Stone and believe that Lindsay McCabe has it. She argues with the police and then gets into a physical fight with O'Donnell who no longer has the item either. Wolverine witnesses all of this, but cannot understand the elevated levels of anxiety that seems to surround this item. Archie and he visit O'Donnell's office to discuss the matter. During the course of conversation, Wolverine learns that nobody was fooled by his "Patch" disguise and that everyone knew he was Wolverine all along. O'Donnell tells Logan that the prince's aide, Johann, took the Gehenna Stone from him. A short while later, a group of Baalists attack Jessica Drew and Burt Corrigan. Burt plays up his "Indiana Jones" persona and even succeeds in ensnaring one of the attackers with a whip. Jessica Drew though prefers the dependability of a handgun. Although these Baalists pattern themselves after vampires, they die just as easily as anything else. Back at the Princess Bar, a squad of Captain Tai's men raid the building, aggressively looking for the stone. Wolverine and O'Donnell engage in some good old fashioned fisticuffs to take down the over-eager police officers. Wolverine learns that O'Donnell's stone is part of the same piece as the one that Burt Corrigan previously carried. His mood sours when he learns that Prince Baran now possesses it. Meanwhile, Jessica parts company from Burt and goes to the prince's castle. She is secretly working for him and wants to warn him about the threat of the Baalists. When she arrives though, she is shocked to find Ba'al, alive and well, and apparently a guest of the prince. Price:

They first appeared as allies of the Legion of Super-Heroes in Adventure Comics #375 written by Jim Shooter, illustrated by Win Mortimer with a cover by Neal Adams. DC published a thirteen-issue series featuring the team in the late 1980s. Contents [hide] * 1 Fictional history o 1.1 Pre-Crisis o 1.2 Post-Crisis o 1.3 Five Years Later o 1.4 "Threeboot" o 1.5 Earth-247 Legion * 2 Notes * 3 External links [edit] Fictional history [edit] Pre-Crisis In their first appearance, the Wanderers were introduced as a team of adventurers that existed several years before the Legion of Super-Heroes were formed.[1] Their symbol was a mandala, which their leader wore across his neck. The Wanderers were: * Celebrand - the leader and the group's strategist. * Psyche - mistress of emotions. * Quantum Queen - able to project or turn herself into any type of quantum energy. * Elvo - master swordsman who wields an energy sword. * Dartalg - expert with blowguns and darts. Has several types of darts for use, such as exploding darts. * Orintho - born with wings and is able to shapeshift into any other bird. * Immorto - expert marksman who cannot be killed, instead his body automatically rejuvenates. After meeting the Legion, the Wanderers were accidentally exposed to radiation from the Nefar Nebula which turned them evil. They stole a valuable gemstone and faced the various Legion members in contests of strength. The Legion managed to figure out what had happened to the Wanderers and reverse the process. The two teams parted as friends. The Wanderers then reappeared as guests at Duo Damsel and Bouncing Boy's wedding[2], and also reappeared during the Legion's clash with Darkseid.[3] Artist Dave Cockrum's redesign sketch for the Wanderers was published in Marvel Comics' X-Men Anniversary Magazine (1993), which showed that one of the originally planned members was Nightcrawler, who Cockrum instead ended up using as a member of the X-Men after he moved to Marvel Comics. [edit] Post-Crisis In June 1988, the Wanderers appeared in their own eponymous title, written by Doug Moench, which ran for thirteen issues. Original artist Steve Dillon redesigned the characters, however he was replaced by Dave Hoover and Robert Campanella who redesigned the characters. In this series, all the Wanderers were killed then recreated by Clonus, their Controller mentor, with upgraded powers and drastically different bodies with the exception of Celebrand, whose cloning attempt failed: * Dartalon (formerly Dartlag) - now changed into an almost monstrous form, with quills coming out of his body and out of his hand like talons instead of his simply using them as weapons. * Elvar (formerly Elvo) - now owned an energy sword that fired emotion-triggered blasts. * Re-Animage (formerly Immorto) - now had the power to heal and revive other people. * Aviax (formerly Ornitho) - retained his original powers. * Psyche - retained her original name and powers. * Quantum Queen - retained her original name and powers. The new Wanderers ultimately solved the murder of their original selves, and officially became agents of the United Planets. On their final mission, they successfully created a clone of their former leader, Celebrand, and opted to follow mysterious aliens into another dimension. Only Dartalon was ever seen again. [edit] Five Years Later Dartalon appeared in a Silverale commercial in Legon of Super-Heroes (vol. 4) after the events of the "Five Year Gap".[volume & issue needed] Inexplicably, Dartalg was later seen among Leland McCauley's collection of captive statuary.[volume & issue needed] [edit] "Threeboot" In the "Threeboot" Legion continuity, the Wanderers are a "black ops" superhero group created by the United Planets to combat the Dominators. All of the Wanderers except Mekt Ranzz were killed fighting the Dominators.[4] Mekt then scoured the galaxy to recreate the team and recruited several heroes, such as Polar Boy, Inferno, White Witch, Nemesis Kid, Plant Lad and others. Mekt also attempted to recruit his sister (Light Lass), as well as Karate Kid, Star Boy, Ultra Boy and Mon-El. Other members of the team include a figure resembling Tyr and the team's co-ordinator Tarik.[5] The members of this version of the Wanderers includes: * Grav - anti-grav acrobat. * Inferno - generates heat and light. * Jeyra Entinn - Saturnian telepath. * Kid Quake - generates earthquakes. * Kromak - able to graft body parts together. * Mekt Ranzz - leader. Return to product information London: A Social History (Hardcover) by Roy Porter 0674538382 Editorial Reviews From School Library Journal YA--A detailed analysis of London's growth from a Roman town to a modern metropolis. The chronological arrangement of the chapters makes it easy to pull out specific time periods. The Victorian age gets special emphasis. The details of everyday life, values, and work ethics can be difficult to locate elsewhere. An up-to-date synthesis of diverse writings about the city provides a social history. The primary sources included make it possible to feel a part of the events. Black-and-white, engravinglike illustrations provide a pictorial overview. Although the reading level may challenge some YAs, it is appropriate for most students of English literature and history. Arlene Hoebel, W.T. Woodson High School, Fairfax, VA Copyright 1995 Cahners Business Information, Inc. From Library Journal "London was always a muddle that worked." Survivor of plagues, fires, wars, and rulers bordering on (or decidedly) incompetent, this city has always managed to retain at least some of its considerable glory. The question, as posed by Porter (Wellcome Inst. for the History of Medicine) is, "Will London survive, in spite of or because of her history?" In a narrative spanning London's beginnings through the time of Margaret Thatcher, Porter has drawn a dense picture of a complex city. Bogged down with the weight of too many details, with a focus too scattered and confused to do the question justice, this book leaves one wishing for the thorough grounding in English history that would make things come clear. For a colorful, accessible resource, turn to the Times London History Atlas (LJ 3/92). Possibly useful as a secondary source for larger academic libraries. [For another recent book on London, see John Russell's London, LJ 10/15/94.-Ed.]-Nancy L. Whitfield, Meriden P.L., Conn. --Nancy L. Whitfield, Meriden P.L., Conn. Walt Whitman [Audiobook] (Paperback) ~ (Author) "IN THE LAST half hour before darkness, lon 0618246169 like new Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly Even readers already familiar with Walt Whitman (1819-1892) will find much to ponder in this forthright biography. Reef (Henry David Thoreau) traces the poet's life, from his unsettled childhood in New York's Long Island and Brooklyn to his declining years in Camden, N.J., also taking note of the anger and the admiration elicited by his work. The poems themselves are thoughtfully quoted, interpreted and placed in the context of biographical events. Readers may marvel that a knockabout journalist who left school at age 11 could have developed the genius to radically alter the form and content of American poetry. Reef, wisely, offers no answers to that enigma; she simply raises the question and points out that it continues to puzzle scholars. Approximately 70 photographs and engravings enhance this sturdy volume. Ages 9-up. Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition. From School Library Journal Grade 5-9?This vivid, straightforward biography draws heavily on poetry and reminiscences to establish Whitman as the rebel poet whose robust free verse and unorthodox themes offended Victorian sensibilities, but greatly influenced American literature. Reef discusses significant events in her subject's life and traces the publishing history of his masterpiece, Leaves of Grass. Emphasis is placed on the Civil War years, a time when Whitman served as a battlefield nurse and wrote some of his most memorable poems. As his character emerges, readers view a man dominated by a strong democratic spirit and an abiding love for all humanity, characteristics readily discernible in both his poetry and prose. While most biographers circumvent Whitman's homosexuality, Reef addresses the issue openly, though briefly. The flowing text is at times lyrically descriptive. Many of the 70 black-and-white reproductions and photographs document the dramatic changes in Whitman's appearance over the years. The volume is well indexed. This title differs markedly from Nancy Loewen's Walt Whitman (Creative Editions, 1994), which is a combination of poetry, biographical vignettes, and photo-history. An absorbing, honest, and highly informative portrait.?Pat Katka, San Diego Public Library Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.
